Does it really help? My friend was quite in a limbo. The company he worked with for twelve years closed down operations of the 3 countries he heads. He got a generous exit benefit after closure. He had jobs offers from his friends in the industry when they learned about the shutdown. His being lost was not centered on financial issues and job placement but rather on what was the best to do next. He went for a life and career mentoring which helped him re-channel his sense of purpose and career paths. At present, he is content working in another industry and invigorated by actively volunteering for an NGO in providing access to clean water systems in remote and poor school villages.

It could help, or may not help others the way it did for my friend. For one thing, he had other positives in place in his life at that time. Perhaps all that was needed was an outside or unbiased push to trigger that inner drive in him so he could be decisive in choosing which among his alternatives is the best to pursue.
