Life coaching: the first step to helping people succeed

Life coaching is a type of advising designed to work one on one with individuals to help them achieve their dreams and goals. Many people who are having difficulty with various avenue of their lives will often seek the help of this advisor to act as a personal motivator. This professional is an unbiased person that works alongside their client to help them overcome obstacles and reach milestones in their lives.

Although not a mental health professional, this type of coach is similar to a therapist in that he or she delves into the personal lives of their clients. Topics can range anywhere from professional, personal, financial, or relationship issues. They will provide assistance to their client in an effort to help them seek clarity by articulating their hopes and desires.

Unlike a therapist, a life coach does not necessarily investigate thoroughly into their client’s past, nor do they ask many personal questions. Instead, they focus on the present and the actions that the individual is currently taking to help or hinder their progress.

A coach will help the individual feel confident and assist them in converting their goals into realistic action steps. The client decides what the action steps will be and the coach is merely there to motivate and encourage them to follow through. Additionally, this professional will ask relevant questions of the client to make sure that the goals and action steps that they have set for themselves are within reach.

Many times individuals seek a coach because they are in need of someone to talk with about their problems and goals. This professional is unbiased and non judgmental, making a comfortable environment for a person to talk to about their deepest fears and personal issues. A coach will help a person to think clearly, which will in turn help them to make positive changes in their lives. There are typically strict confidentiality rules between the coach and the client, which means that nothing discussed between the two can ever be divulged to a third party. This adds another element of security and safety.

In order for a coach to be successful and for a client to reach their desires, it is important that some necessary thought processes are in place. First, the individual receiving guidance must be willing to accept change. The person must also have at least one goal that is possible to reach. An unattainable goal will only yield unsuccessful results. In addition, the coach and client must be a good fit to work together. Each must possess necessary personal characteristics that are relatable to the other.

Many times the advising is done over the phone for about three to five sessions. The price can range anywhere from $300 to $1000 a session, depending on the outcome the client is searching to receive.

Life coaching can be beneficial to many if the person has an attainable goal in mind. Additionally, the individual must be willing to make changes that are necessary to achieving their vision. It is important that the individual seek out a coach that has a compatible personality to them. This will help the process run smoothly.
